Gal Guardians: Demon Purge

Grim Guardians: Demon Purge is an action adventure platformer metroidvania. It was developed and published by Inti Creates.

Plot

The main protagonists of Grim Guardians: Demon Purge are the Kamizono sisters - Maya and Shinobu - two demon hunters. When their school turns into a grim haunted castle, the girls take up arms and go on a hunt to send the darkness back where it came from.

Mechanics

The gameplay of Grim Guardians: Demon Purge is shown from the side. Agility and reflexes are key as we traverse the dark fortress, avoiding traps, obstacles and jumping onto platforms.

The player often encounters enemies, which the sisters can deal with in two different ways. While Maya faces them in melee combat, Shinobu prefers to use ranged weaponry. In addition to their main weapons, each sister has a unique sub-weapon, the use of which requires using special points. The player can switch between both sisters at any time, putting constant pressure on enemies and chaining attacks into flashy, deadly combos. In addition to regular enemies, which aren't too big of a challenge for our demon hunters, we'll need to face powerful bosses. Although they're challenging, they're worth the hassle, as they leave behind new weapons which can be used both during combat and exploration to access previously unreachable areas.

The game features three difficulty levels, thus being accessible both to novices and veterans of the genre. It is also worth remembering that if one of the sisters falls, the other can revive her if she reaches her in time.

Game modes

Grim Guardians: Demon Purge supports singleplayer and local co-op, each player controlling one of the sisters.

Technical aspects

The visuals of Grim Guardians: Demon Purge make use of pixel art and a dark artstyle reminiscent of the early Castlevania games. The player can choose between the original, Japanese voice acting and the English dub.
