God of War: Ascension

The fourth part of the saga of Kratos, a combative Spartan who challenged the Olympic gods. This time, the story goes back in time to when Kratos was still a man and a warrior fighting in the name of Ares.

In God of War: Ascension players once again take on the mighty Spartan, who uses chain blades in combat. The game is a prequel to the series, and the story unfolds in the times before the duel with Ares, as a result of which Kratos took place of the god of war on Mount Olympus. The authors decided to emphasize more clearly all the dilemmas and emotions accompanying the hero.

We get to know the hero just after the treacherous Ares coerces him into murdering his own family which lead to putting Kratos in custody in a huge Titan prison, designed for the condemned. Sentenced to life imprisonment and accompanied only by Furies, Kratos falls into madness. This, however, is not enough to completely break mentally as mighty a warrior as the one Kratos has become. Not as long as the Spartan has hope for taking revenge. Both on Ares and the other gods of Olympus.

The developers from Sony Santa Monica studio have not changed the core gameplay, known from previous games, although they put combat mechanics through some changes in order to refresh the series. There are also numerous mini-games involving manipulating elements of the environment. Something what is completely new for the series, is introduction of a non-linear storyline.

New to the series is also a multiplayer mode, in which up to eight players may take part, both locally and via the internet. The developers have prepared several game modes, including team-based, in which players represent one of the Greek gods - Ares, Zeus, Poseidon, or Hades.
