Goat Simulator: GoatZ Description
GoatZ for PC, AND and iOS is the second large expansion to Goat Simulator – the action game with a goat protagonist which parodies the simulator games swarming the market. The title was released in April 2014. This time the developers decided to laugh at sandbox zombie apocalypse survival games – especially the ones which remain in the Steam Early Access for very long time (DayZ is one of the examples). In difference to the first expansion – Goat MMO Simulator – GoatZ for PC, AND and iOS isn’t available for free. Similarly as the base game, the expansion pack was developed by independent studio Coffee Stain. The title requires the original Goat Simulator to work.
The greatest attraction of the expansion is a new, quite large area to explore. The area presents a typical zombie apocalypse reality. In difference to other zombie apocalypse titles, the area in GoatZ for PC, AND and iOS is filled with jokes and easter eggs. Of course there are some zombies as well. Since they are hostile towards the protagonist, the goat controlled by the player can use a few types of weapons. In order to obtain them one must use a simple crafting system which parodies the solutions from serious survival games.
Another humoristic feature is the system of needs of the protagonist. In order not to die, every five minutes, the player must eat something. As the developers explained, “one must eat so frequently because Dean Hall [the creator of DayZ] and Garry Newman [the creator of Rust] say so”. The feature that shows the humoristic tone of the game the most is… bugs. Similarly as in games parodied by Coffee Stain Studios – which when GoatZ was created remained for a long time in a barely playable Steam Early Access versions – in the expansion to Goat Simulator there are many glitches and bugs. The developers promised that they won’t fix these bugs (unless they would make it impossible to play the game).
To make playing GoatZ for PC, AND and iOS more interesting, the developers added many unlockables to the game such as alternative goats with special powers.
