Ghostrunner 2

Ghostrunner 2 is the sequel to a 2020 first-person cyberpunk action game, developed by a Polish studio One More Level. While the developer remains the same, this game was published by 505 Games, who have purchased the rights to the franchise in March 2021.

Plot

Ghostrunner 2 is set a year after the first game. After defeating the Keymaster reigning over Dharma Tower, Jack must face a brutal AI cult. The stakes are high and the fate of humanity is in his hands.

Mechanics

Ghostrunner 2 is a first-person game. The game expands upon the mechanics from the first game, though it significantly expands and diversifies gameplay.

The player must rush through postapocalyptic, cyberpunk areas, dispatching hordes of enemies. Just like in the first Ghostrunner, we must stay mobile, avoiding enemy attacks and gunfire, learning their positioning on the arenas, spotting interactive parts of the environment such as exploding barrels and destructible walls, planning our route through the stage. We'll usually resort to trial and error, as deaths are very frequent. Apart from regular foes, we'll also face powerful bosses with unique movesets. During some sections we'll also get to drive a motorcycle.

Our primary weapon is a katana, wielded alongside various combat skills. Jack can also climb the environment, jump over pits and wall run. He also wields an energy whip on his forearm, used to cover greater distances in the air and expanding his moveset in combat.

As we progress through the game, we develop our character and adapt him to our playstyle. We'll also encounter some friendly NPCs providing information about the setting.

Technical aspects

Ghostrunner 2 features high-quality visuals and an atmospheric, "neon" artstyle. The synthwave soundtrack was composed by such artists as Daniel Deluxe, We Are Magonia, Gost, Dan Terminus and Arkadiusz Reikowski.
