Gameplay

Just like in the first part of the production, gameplay consists of neutralizing aliens by using a wide arsenal of weapons such as an assault rifle mounted with a chainsaw bayonet, a shotgun, grenades etc., supplemented with new toys, like a Gorgon Pistol or Ink Grenades temporarily poisoning the area of explosion. From time to time you will use modes of transportations, such as the gigantic Centaur Tank. Gears of War 2 introduces an extensive variety of creatures, like Kantus – a kind of Locust priest who can reinvigorate his injured mates. The game also features monsters much bigger in size, which serve a role of fully-fledged bosses.

Game modes

The authors implemented a fourth difficulty level that is even easier than so far the easiest Casual level. Apart from the single player campaign, the game also features multiplayer modes, such as cooperation, where different specifications can be set by the players. It is supported by a special system that scores each player differently, depending on the difficulty level they choose. There is also a multiplayer mode concentrating on chainsaw battles, either with enemies controlled by the game’s AI or real players. Multiplayer allows up to eight users to play at the same time.

Technical aspects

Gears of War 2 utilizes modified Unreal Engine 3, which offers dynamic shadows, rendering hordes of enemies, realistic properties of liquids along with soft objects, and the destructible environment. Cut-scenes have also been improved as they are now interactive. The game’s voice-over is provided by the actors known from the first installment of Gears of War.
