Gear Gauntlet Description
Gear Gauntlet published on PC, XONE and WiiU is a dynamic action-arcade game with platformer elements, developed by debuting Drop Dead Interactive from the Great Britain. Originally, the title was created under the ID@XBOX program for the console by Microsoft, but eventually the game was converted to other platforms.
Mechanics
Creators of Gear Gauntlet resigned from implementing a typical plot in which once again the player would be in control of some fearless hero saving the world. Instead, they focused exclusively on mechanics and offered an arcade-puzzler that combines elements of such series as Sonic, Super Meat Boy, and even Guitar Hero. Gameplay features extremely fast pace and emphasises the player’s reflex.
You play as a little gearwheel travelling through endless mazes of corridors and collecting other cogs similar to itself. There are loads of traps and dangers on its way, like spinning circular saws, boosters, teleports, etc. Gameplay takes place in a few various worlds and the key element of mechanics is the system of colour change necessary for braking through colourful barriers. Combined with the breakneck pace of gameplay, the game’s elements slightly resemble those in music games, like Guitar Hero.
Game modes
Gear Gauntlet features only a single player campaign. However, the developers provided players with an extensive system of the Internet leaderboards, where you can compare your scores with other players.
Technical aspects
Released on PC, XONE and WiiU, Gear Gauntlet features simple, yet colourful and attractive visuals that perfectly fit the game’s arcade nature. During gameplay you are presented with hand-drawn, atmospheric backgrounds which change depending on the world you visit. The original soundtrack is recorded by Stephen Matthew White (also known as Ghost Tone).
