The remastered version of a 1995 action platformer. Gargoyles Remastered has us playing as Goliath, a gargoyle on a quest to destroy a corrupted amulet, the Eye of Odin. The game features refreshed visuals, audio and new functionality.
Gargoyles Remastered is a remastered version of a 1995 action platformer, based on the animated series of the same name. It was co-developed by Empty Clip Studios and Disney.
Plot
The protagonist of Gargoyles Remastered is Goliath, a gargoyle. He must defeat the villainous Demona and take the Eye of Odin from her - a corrupted magical amulet that could doom the world in wrong hands.
Mechanics
Gargoyles Remastered is a side-scroller. The player must move to the right, traversing various locations, including the ancient Wyvern Castle, modern Manhattan skyscrapers and the New York subway. We'll jump on platforms, avoid obstacles, traps and face down enemies.
Goliath's primary weapons are his fists and claws; his wings, meanwhile let him attack from the air. Wings and claws come in handy while exploring too; the former let him glide and jump further, while the latter - climb walls and ceilings.
Though mechanically the game remains unchanged, the remastered version also includes a rewind feature, letting players undo their actions at any time.
Technical aspects
Gargoyles Remastered features thoroughly refreshed visuals. The developers have created much more detailed sprites, locations and new animations. There are also new sound effects and a new version of the original soundtrack.
The player can switch between the original and remastered graphics at any time, as well as between three versions of the soundtrack.

For better or worse, Gargoyles Remastered remains a product of its time.

Worse than any promises unfulfilled is that the game just isn't very good at all, and it's mired by bugs, lacks basic options and tutorials, and only spans five total stages. Gargoyles is a relic that should have remained set in 16-bit stone, sealed away never to return. I'm normally very supportive of the effort to bring back old and forgotten games, but even superfans of the TV series shouldn't be tortured by this unnecessary re-release.

Limited Run is only selling physical copies of Gargoyles Remastered until October 22, so if you have any nostalgic love for this game, you have 3 days from the publication of this review to pick it up! And I really hope that you do. As much I can’t recommend Gargoyles Remastered to most players, I really appreciate Disney Games and Limited Run for creating quality remasters of retro games that aren’t in high demand. I have so much love and support for this project. I’d love to see this kind of treatment for more 16-bit Disney games like The Magical Quest trilogy, Mickey Mania, or Goof Troop.
