El Dorado: The Golden City Builder Description
El Dorado: The Golden City Builder is a city builder strategy game in which our task is to build the titular, mythical metropolis from scratch. The game is the result of cooperation between 2 Polish studios - the independent Gameparic (authors of such projects as Project Wunderwaffe and NecroCity) and the Warsaw-based studio Hobo Bunch.
Mechanics
El Dorado: The Golden City Builder takes us to the Yucatan Peninsula, where we try to build a city that will both impress people and please the gods. We start modestly, from a small settlement built from the simplest and most easily accessible resources. By collecting resources and creating new buildings, such as sawmills, temples or residential houses, we gradually develop our settlement, over time gaining access to more and more advanced materials and buildings.
It is worth remembering about the proper planning of our metropolis, which concerns the proper distribution of individual zones (residential, related to tree felling or land cultivation), and the connection of all buildings with paths allowing residents to move freely.
That's not everything, because we are not alone in Yucatan. We must monitor the activities of our neighbors and, if necessary, establish friendly relations with them or try to dominate them using military force. Deciding on a war we must first equip ourselves with the military units, building barracks and training battle-hardened soldiers. Organizing military expeditions involves the need to establish supply lines and take care of them, so that they provide resources to the forces guarding our lands or attacking enemy territory.
It's worth knowing that strategic and economic cunning is of no use to us if we do not secure the favor of the gods. To achieve it, it is not enough to just build places of worship. It is also necessary to employ priests, organize festivals and perform secret rituals in honor of the gods, as well as offer them sacrifices, primarily human ones. In return, we can enjoy protection from catastrophes and various enhancements, such as larger crops or military bonuses.
If we skimp on time and resources to pay homage to the gods, then they can feel ignored and can send upon us more or less persistent plagues. While single lightning strikes destroying individual buildings are not particularly bothersome to us, tornadoes wreaking havoc in our metropolis pose a much more serious problem.
