City of Atlantis is a city builder strategy game that lets you take on the role of the ruler of mythical Atlantis. The game is the fruit of cooperation between Gambit Games Studio and MeanAstronauts teams, while it was published by Games Operators and CreativeForge Games.

Plot

City of Atlantis takes us on a journey to the titular Atlantis, an ancient city-state that surpasses other civilizations in almost all areas - from science, through economy, to military. It owes its position not only to the fertile soil, but also to the presence of precious stones, which can be found here in bulk. During the game we play the role of the administrator of the city and on our shoulders rests the task of taking care of its development and security.

Mechanics

In City of Atlantis the action is shown from a top-down view. Atlantis is an island metropolis divided into ten provinces. During the game almost all aspects of its functioning are on our mind. In order to meet the basic needs of our people, we must first of all cultivate the land and raise animals and ensure constant access to drinking water. Next, we should take care of the sewage system, as well as the education of residents. The game allows us to build schools focused on different specialties - from agriculture, through hygiene and medicine, to technology, politics, trade and military. This is important because a higher level of knowledge of Atlanteans in a given field translates into faster development of the city, increased production of various goods, as well as an advantage over the enemies. Finally, in order to increase the morale of the inhabitants, we can bet on the development of culture and art.

Atlantis is not 100% safe, and because of its wealth it is a tasty morsel for hostile neighbors. At a certain stage, therefore, we have to deal with the construction of fortifications, as well as putting up a powerful army, supported by the most advanced fleet possible. Fleet not only increases the safety of the city, but also allows you to organize various expeditions. Another thing is that war is not the only way to establish relations with neighboring countries. We can just as well bet on peaceful solutions, and educated philosophers and politicians, as excellent diplomats, can with a little luck provide us with friendly relations with our neighbors.

When planning urban development, we must take into account not only maximizing efficiency (therefore, focus on creating districts specialized in specific areas) and defense against enemy troops, but also the ability to withstand various natural disasters. In particular, the almost futuristic infrastructure to protect against flooding and tsunami, which can bring doom to Atlantis if it is not properly prepared for them, plays an important role here.

Technical aspects

City of Atlantis has attractive graphics. The impression of commanding a city that is technologically superior to other ancient civilizations is intensified by the interface, which at first glance may even seem a bit too futuristic.
