Ships at Sea Description
Ships at Sea is a simulation game that allows us to test ourselves as the captain of a modern civilian ship. The game was developed by Misc Games studio, which has similar genre projects in its portfolio - Fishing: Barents Sea and Fishing: North Atlantic.
Mechanics
In Ships at Sea we watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). The game takes us to the Norwegian Sea, more specifically - to Lofoten. The game offers us an open world with an area of 46 by 46 kilometers, recreating the above-mentioned archipelago on a one-to-one scale. This applies to both the topography of the area and the location of individual ports.
During the game, we command a ship and follow one of three career paths (or all of them at the same time, if we choose to play like that). We can engage in cargo transportation or commercial fishing, as well as become service operators (supporting other ships by supplying them with fuel and dealing with maintenance work, repairs and towing damaged units).
The game has implemented variable weather conditions that affect the situation at sea, an artificial intelligence system that monitors the behavior of fish (among which are new species not available in the studio's previous works, such as halibut, salmon and spotted catfish), as well as an economic model that controls demand, supply and prices of individual goods.
As we progress, we accumulate funds that allow us to modify and improve our current ship and purchase new ships. Thanks to official licenses, the game includes units from Breeze company, as well as gadgets, tools and solutions from companies such as Ocean Space Acoustics, Lorentzen Hydraulik, Ostbornholms Kutterservice, and JRC & ProNav.
Game modes
Ships at Sea can be played alone or in multiplayer mode for up to 4 players.
Technical aspects
Ships at Sea runs on Unreal Engine 5. The realistic water animation is provided by WaveWorks technology, developed by Nvidia company.
