Infection Free Zone Description
Infection Free Zone is a city builder, in which we lead a community fighting to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. The game stands out compared to other strategies, as we can choose any real city as its setting. This is made possible thanks to real data downloaded from the OpenStreetMap service.
It was developed by a Polish studio Jutsu Games, known for 112 Operator and Rustler. Infection Free Zone is their yet another successfully crowdfunded Kickstarter project.
Plot
The game's world was brought to the brink due to a mysterious virus, which instantly killed thousands and infected the others, turning them into bloodthirsty beasts. Civilization quickly fell, unable to handle the infected's strength, speed and aggression. A few survivors immune to the virus hid in makeshift shelters. They now wait until they can return to the surface, rebuild the world and create a cure.
Mechanics
Infection Free Zone tasks us with managing a community of survivors in a selected city. Thanks to the OpenStreetMap service we can play in any real city, such as New York or Warsaw, making use of their distinguishing landmarks and locations. The gameplay revolves around moving survivors across the map (on foot or in vehicles) and scavenging - buildings, such as pharmacies, shops and police stations retain their real-life locations.
Obtained funds can be used to expand the titular infection free zone. We can upgrade the buildings within it and grant them new functions, such as production facilities, hospitals and armories. Power plants will grant electricity, farms produce food, while high walls and watchtowers keep the frenzied infected out during the night.
Infection Free Zone also features other survivors we can come into contact with. Some will contact us via radio, offering to trade. Others will try to take our things by force, wielding melee weapons or firearms. Depending on our chosen strategy, we can either seek a cure for the virus or aim to completely rebuild the city.
