Horizon Chase 2 couldn’t turn out any better than it has, and it’s a good thing that it’s finally hitting more consoles since it’ll give more players a chance to see what all the fuss is about. If you are of the sort that enjoys casual but at the same time intense arcade experiences, this is a game you shouldn’t go without, regardless of the platform you choose to play it on.
PlayStation Universe: 9 / 10 by Isaac McCraw
Horizon Chase 2 is a phenomenal package for arcade racing game fans. It makes great improvements over the original game, both in visuals and in gameplay. This feels like the definitive arcade racing experience for anyone that is interested in chasing high scores, playing a game with friends, or just enjoying a race or two to unwind. This is easily a game that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys the genre.
Screen Rant: 4.5 / 5 by Carrie Lambertsen
Ultimately there is nothing mind-blowing about Horizon Chase 2, but there also really isn't anything negative either. The only drawback is that there isn't more of it, as the game is pretty quick to complete at roughly eight hours for the entire World Tour unless played on high difficulties that make it harder to progress. Horizon Chase 2 simply feels like a fun game that is perfect at giving a nostalgic feel of a 90s arcade racer, but with much better graphics to smooth it out.
Horizon Chase 2 Description
Horizon Chase 2 is an arcade racing game, sequel to Horizon Chase and its enhanced version for PC and consoles - Horizon Chase Turbo. It was developed and published, as in the case of earlier installments of the series, by Aquiris Game Studio.
Game mechanics
The action is observed from a camera placed behind the car. The gameplay is based on completing routes as quickly as possible, which is varied by solutions typical of the genre, such as nitro, accelerating fields or splitting roads.
At the start we have access to 55 routes in 5 countries around the world and can unlock 10 cars. Each car can be upgraded to improve its statistics, as well as personalized after acquiring the right parts.
Game modes
We have a choice of different game modes (e.g. Playground, which offers various arcade challenges, or Tournament giving the opportunity to compete in modified races) and in each of them we can play solo or together with friends. There is also no shortage of options to compete with others over the network.
Technical aspects
Game is distinguished by its graphic style - three-dimensional, but referring to 16-bit two-dimensional racing games. In this installment of the series it looks more modern, while still maintaining the original atmosphere.
