Heroes of the Monkey Tavern

Heroes of the Monkey Tavern is a dungeon crawler developed by the independent developer Monkey Stories. The game draws not only from the classics of the genre but also from its modern representatives, led by the first installment of Legend of Grimrock.

Story

In Heroes of the Monkey Tavern we play as the heroes who celebrated in the title Monkey Tavern until their purses started to run dry. Just in time, they meet a mysterious stranger who tells them about the treasures hidden in a tall tower looming on the horizon. The protagonists, looking for an opportunity to get rich, decided to plunder the building.

Mechanics

Like the classic representatives of the genre, in Heroes of the Monkey Tavern we observe the action from first-person perspective. We start the game by composing a party of four daredevils, selecting them from among the representatives of eight different classes. In their skin, we travel through gloomy labyrinths (one field at a time and able to turn by ninety degrees), full of dangerous traps and monsters, puzzles and over a hundred unique items.

As the heroes progress, they gain experience points and level up, enabling them to face more and more dangerous enemies over time. The flights against latter take place in real-time, and during the battles, it is all about choosing the right tactics and skillful use of the strengths of each of the adventurers, both in battles against six powerful bosses and sixteen types of common opponents.

Technical aspects

Three-dimensional visuals of Heroes of the Monkey Tavern have been maintained in a style reminiscent of the aforementioned Legend of Grimrock, and the struggle is accompanied by an atmospheric soundtrack. In addition, it should be noted that the title enables us to choose one of the three levels of difficulty.
