Game Studio Tycoon 3 for AND and iOS is an economic strategy game focusing on gamedev itself. The game was created by Michael Sherwin – an independent developer behind production of the two previous installments as well. Game Studio Tycoon 3 is a premium title, thus it does not use any microtransactions.
Mechanics
In Game Studio Tycoon 3 for AND and iOS, the player assumes the role of an owner of a gamemaking studio. Although with great ambitions, the player has little money at first. The money the player receives to establish a studio is hardly enough to rent a small office and hire a handful of employees. However, the player has big development opportunities and aims to establish a large company that employs fifty workers located in seven separate buildings at maximum, simultaneously creating up to three games.
In Game Studio Tycoon 3 for AND and iOS, the player goes through fifty years of gamemaking history and is taken to the nearest future as well. The player's company can be developed either on their own or with help of external investors. The player can sell a part of the studio in order to acquire funds quickly when the situation gets miserable. The player is obliged to make significant decisions, such as what is the genre a given game is to belong to, how much is to be spent on it or who is to work on that game. The player also has to advertise their products, meet the terms, manage the staff and monitor the balance between the income and expenditure.
Game Studio Tycoon 3 offers an opportunity to create the player's own gaming system, such as a home console, a hand-held console or a mobile device. If one's gaming system achieves success on the market, a new source of income is obtained, because other developers have to pay for the player's license. Video game industry trade fairs and interactions with fans (they have their own preferences and needs; they get older over time) play a significant role here as well. Having to compete against seven AI-controlled developers is additionally exciting.
