Xbox Achievements: 80 / 100 by Richard Walker
An enjoyably easygoing interstellar hospital management sim that doesn't take itself too seriously, Galacticare is exactly the sort of game that will gobble up your time without you even realising. With streamlined mechanics and a daft sense of humour, there's a good dose of fun to be had here.
GGRecon: 4 / 5 by Jack Roberts
Galacticare will have you reaching for the stars as you build your cosmic hospital up and treat the denizens of the furthest reaches of space. While it may be a little on the slow side to start with, putting in enough time into creating your optimal medical facility is incredibly satisfying, with a cast of characters that help make each of your spaces feel alive.
Use a Potion: 8 / 10
Galacticare is a wonderful hospital management sim that manages to feel unique thanks to its comically wacky intergalactic setting. Don’t get me wrong, it wears its inspirations like a big badge of honour and those who’ve played Theme Hospital will feel right at home thanks to the addictive yet familiar gameplay loop, but it also showcases enough of its own ideas to ensure it feels like more than just a clone of Bullfrog’s classic release. It’s just a ton of fun to play, with the campaign bringing with it plenty of bizarre yet engrossing scenarios to complete, the gameplay offering a streamlined approach that’ll appeal to both veterans and newbies of the genre, and the visuals bringing everything to life with the vibrant colours and unusual yet tantalising creature and ailment design.
Galacticare Description
Galacticare is a humorous economic strategy enriched with elements typical of medical simulators. The game features a sci-fi setting - it allows us to develop a network of space hospitals and treat alien races. It is the work of an independent British studio, Brightrock Games.
Gameplay
In Galacticare we are faced with the task of creating and managing a complex of medical facilities that treat aliens. Our responsibilities include the expansion of 23rd-century hospitals, including the preparation of rooms for various purposes (diagnostic rooms, laboratories, waiting rooms, etc.). We equip the rooms with specialized equipment (e.g. holographic doctors or teleporters), as well as furniture or cosmetic items.
We can provide assistance to galactic criminals, victims of industrial disasters, or farmers from remote outskirts. The aliens are distinguished by unusual symptoms and appearance, including biomechanical lemurs and creatures with sizes comparable to space shuttles. Although therapies in Galacticare often have unexpected effects (including disintegration), if successful, we can count on strengthening bonds with representatives of a specific race. Getting to know different cultures also provides additional rewards.
We must also pay attention to our staff - hospital employees may belong to different races, have different abilities or personality traits. Over time, our team gains new experience levels, which allows us to unlock new character skills. It is also necessary to take care of the basic needs of the staff, including satisfying hunger or ensuring adequate rest.
Game modes
Galacticare is a singleplayer title. The game includes a story campaign and a sandbox mode enabling free play.
