Future Unfolding

Future Unfolding for PC and PS4 is an exploration game created by Spaces of Play – an independent developer popular mainly for the well-received Spirits. Future Unfolding takes the player to a world of dreams.

Mechanics

The game is played from a top-down view and the player explores a colorful fantasy world inhabited by different species of animals here. While certain ones can be mounted, for example, others pose a deadly threat to the unnamed protagonist, who wears a blue jacket. Since the protagonist is completely unarmed, the player has to avoid contact with predators, instead trying to trick them, sneak past them, or run away if necessary.

The in-game environment is generated procedurally, thus the experience is different with each approach. especially because the game world itself undergoes transformations incessantly (it is an oneiric world after all) and is filled with secrets waiting to be discovered. Artifacts found along the way allow the protagonist to acquire different skills, such as transformation into animals. Solving puzzles on the other hand, unlocks new areas for the player to explore.
