Freaky Awesome Description
Freaky Awesome is an original action game enriched by RPG elements and rouguelike mechanics. The game was created by an independent Russian studio Mandragora – the developer’s portfolio also includes Skyhill, which was warmly welcomed by players. Freaky Awesome was released for PC.
Plot
In Freaky Awesome you play as an inhabitant of an alternative world, where all sorts of monsters live next to humans. The story has non-linear structure and the player’s actions determine not only where it goes, but also how it ends.
Mechanics
In-game events are presented in an isometric perspective. Gameplay is based on two pillars. The first one is exploration – you mostly traverse across industrial environments (these are e.g. factories, underground tunnels, or sewers), and the locations you visit are procedurally generated. The second pillar is combat against hordes of enemies – apart from ordinary opponents, there are also bosses of varying strength and sizes.
Fortunately, the protagonist is not defenseless – he can use supernatural abilities. One of them allows him to have his health restored by stepping over the carcass of a defeated enemy. This, however, is not the end of his special abilities – doing that causes infection, which often results in transforming the hero into a monster. Therefore, the key to success in Freaky Awesome is using a proper tactics based on this original mechanics. While in combat you should also have your eyes open for possibilities offered by the environment – in-game locations are filled with traps that can be used for your advantage. At the same time you should remember that death is permanent here. The gameplay is further enriched by character progression – that is, collecting more and more powerful equipment and unlocking new abilities.
Game modes
Freaky Awesome for PC lets you play alone and with up to three other players.
Technical aspects
Freaky Awesome draws much inspiration from 16-bit classics. The game’s 2D graphics is kept in characteristic pixel art stylistics, and gameplay is accompanied by dynamic chiptune soundtrack.
