Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier is a third-person battle royale action game set in the Final Fantasy VII universe. The spin-off was developed for mobile devices on order from Square Enix, which entrusted the project to one of its internal studios.
Plot
The game's story is set 30 years before the events shown in Final Fantasy VII. Players take on the role of a warrior who wants to join the ranks of SOLDIER. Before they can become one of Shinra's soldiers, however, they have to test themselves in a fight for survival against other candidates.
Mechanics
As in many battle royale games, in Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier players are thrown into an enclosed and ever-decreasing location. The winner will be the last man standing on the battlefield. We are given both conventional weaponry (including swords and sniper rifles) and magical spells at our disposal.
Technical aspects
Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier uses touch controls characteristic for mobile games. The 3D graphics resemble what can be seen in full-fledged installments of the Final Fantasy series from the eighth and ninth generation of consoles, including Final Fantasy VII Remake.
