All the virtual players in the game can boast the same names as in reality, and the visual design of the menu refers to the 1998 World Cup in France.
The game offers several modes of play: league competitions (eleven countries to choose from and all first league teams at that time), world championships (full games with group qualifications and the cup phase), friendly matches and a penalty shootout competition, which de facto serve to train the skills in the performance of eleven players. FIFA 98: Road to World Cup also offers a multiplayer mode, allowing teams to fight with two players.
