Fear Effect Reinvented

Fear Effect Reinvented is a remake of Fear Effect created by Kronos Digital Entertainment, which was released on the PlayStation 1 in 2000. Sushee studio is responsible for of the remake, which is also responsible for the continuation of the series - Fear Effect Sedna, founded on Kickstarter. The Polish Forever Entertainment studio also helped in developing Fear Effect Reinvented.

Plot

In Fear Effect Reinvented, we control three mercenaries - Hana Tsu-Vachel, Jacob "Deke" DeCourt and Royce Glas. Our characters seemingly try to solve the mystery of the disappearance of the daughter of the powerful Chinese mafia boss, Lam, but in fact, they are interested in kidnapping the girl for a ransom. The intrigue becomes much more complicated over time, especially when supernatural elements, connected with Lam's past and the pact he once made, start appearing.

Mechanics

Fear Effect Reinvented on PS4, PC, etc. is a hybrid of adventure and survival horror games. Players travel through locations, use objects and discover new plot points. The game also has simple action sequences. What distinguishes Fear Effect Reinvented from other productions is an unusual health mechanic. Instead of the traditional red bar, we have an ECG chart, which reflects the level of terror of our character. If they are in danger - e.g. when they get attacked - the indicator increases, which can lead to death over time. For example, solving puzzles or performing stealth attacks helps to stabilize the hero's condition.

Technical aspects

The graphics in Fear Effect Reinvented, available on PS4, PC, etc., use a cell-shading technique, which gives it a characteristic cartoon style. Despite the fact that the game has been thoroughly improved with respect to the original graphics and controls, the game retains the camera angles known from the original version.
