A remastered version of the famous visual novel game from 2004. Fate/stay night Remastered takes us to an urban fantasy version of Japan. As a young mage we participate in a ritual hoping to find the Holy Grail. This version offers three alternative storylines.
Fate/stay night Remastered is a refreshed version of the visual novel titled Fate/stay night. It was released in 2004 for personal computers, three years later on PlayStation 2, and also converted to PlayStation Vita in 2012 as Fate/stay night [Realta Nua].
This version is based on the last of the mentioned above and is the result of a collaboration between the authors of the original, namely Type-Moon studio, and the fuzz team. This is also the first version of Fate/stay night, which has been translated into English.
Plot
Fate/stay night Remastered takes us to the urban fantasy universe, specifically to the fictional Japanese city of Fuyuki. The main character of the game is a young apprentice of magic - Shirou Emiya. Unforeseen circumstances force the protagonist to participate in a regularly performed ritual, in which magicians compete with each other for possession of the Holy Grail granting wishes. To defeat the competition, they summon so-called Servants, in fact being Heroic Spirits - heroes and heroines of myths and legends from around the world.
How the further fate of Shirou will unfold, who he will ally with, who he will have a bone to pick with, and finally - whether he will manage to obtain the Holy Grail, largely depends on our actions and the choices we make.
Gameplay
The gameplay in Fate/stay night Remastered does not deviate from the pattern typical for the visual novel genre. The pillar of the game is therefore reading text descriptions of places and situations in which the hero is, as well as conducting conversations with the characters.
We also regularly have to make choices that affect the further course of the story and its ending. Apart from the first storyline, Fate, there are two additional ones waiting to be unlocked, namely Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven’s Feel. To see them all, we need to complete the adventure multiple times, making different decisions along the way.
Graphics
The graphics of Fate/stay night Remastered primarily consist of two-dimensional illustrations presenting locations, characters and situations. They are maintained in a manga style. Compared to the original, this version stands out primarily due to being able to run at a higher resolution.

[2:10] Fate/stay night Remastered Fate Stay Night REMASTERED - Release Announcement
Rectify Gaming: 8.5 / 10
While the upgraded graphics look amazing, and the adaptation to English and Simplified Chinese are great things, there isn’t anything else to make the game “Remastered”, For this is a visual novel, and there aren’t any mechanics or anything to remaster as the games mostly dialogue and visuals. While the price isn’t the worst, for a remaster with no real added content or value versus the original, it is hard to justify the remaster versus finding the original for cheap. However, in my opinion, the story itself is one of the top visual novels I’ve played and helps this game score high.
Shacknews: 9 / 10 by Lucas White
The bottom line is that Fate/Stay Night is a keystone work in a genre that’s never been more popular on our side of the globe. For decades, it seemed like this historically important (and good as heck by itself anyway) visual novel would never be readily available and professionally localized like this. Anyone with an interest in anime, gaming, and alternative forms of digital storytelling owes it to themselves to check this story out. It’s one of the all-time greats, and if you do take the time (and it does take a lot of time), you’ll easily understand why Fate is such a big deal nowadays. And if this is your first time, welcome to one of the most absurd, yet rewarding rabbit holes you can dive into.
COGconnected: 88 / 100 by Nicola Kapron
All in all, Fate/stay night REMASTERED is a flawed masterpiece landmark title in gaming. If you’re a fan of visual novels, fantasy, or want to start the Fate franchise at the very beginning, this is your chance.
