Fate is an action/FPS game in which the player becomes a colonial cop Ludwig "Lud" Gunn entangled in a dangerous interplanetary conspiracy. After losing the battle with the usurping forces on Mars, Ludwig "Lud" Gunn is arrested and found guilty of treason. He can either stay in a penal colony for many years or be conscripted into police troops on the recently settled distant planet of Tysus. Originally used as a shipping site for dangerous criminals, the colony later became a rich source of raw materials for mining corporations. After the introduction of a heavy hand of justice, the social situation has stabilised somewhat.

The only group outside the jurisdiction of the corporation were the Scorchesi, the first colonists to teraphorm the planet. They inhabited the desert areas between the city and the mines, rarely trying to demolish the "harmony" introduced by the corporation. The action of the game begins with the task of stopping the Scorches from taking over the IronTech building in the city centre. It was the main scientific institute, where the corporation conducted top secret research. The corporation does not trust the local police and sends a group of commandos to protect the building. Ludwig "Lud" Gunn is ordered to get inside and check what is going on....
