Red Faction Description
Red Faction for PC and PS2 is a mix of basic features of the FPS genre with extensive adventure game elements. The action takes place on Mars, controlled by Ultor corporation, in year 2100. A rebellion begins in one of the mines. The miners revolt against the ruthless regime of the corporation. Their desire for revenge and fight is fueled by an outbreak of an unidentified virus, which begins to decimate the workers.
Plot
We meet the protagonist among the rebels – Parker, who has chosen a rugged life in a mine, after quitting the university of Harward. Red Faction for PC and PS2 also includes a number of important figures: Gryphon – a former corporation worker, who joins the rebellion, Hendrix – a hitman, Masako – a mercenary, Eos – the female leader of the rebellion, Capek – Ultor’s main scientist. Assuming the role of Parker, we lead the rebellion, which is dissatisfied with the current state of affairs, and wants to discover the secrets of the plague, which has struck the mines.
Mechanics
The game is based on a new engine, Geo-Mod. Geometric Modification is a term, standing for a new technique of controlling objects in a three-dimensional space. Thanks to it, the players are placed in a fully interactive environment, where every plane, person, or object is incredibly realistic and detailed, acting in its natural way. By adding the complete freedom to interact with the environment, we receive a game, where anything can happen. The player decides where to go, how to use his weapons, which elements of the environment can be used. The best example of innovatory solutions is the ability to destroy the environment, which allows us, for example, to “dig through” the walls.
There is a large arsenal of weapons and equipment at the player’s disposal. You can choose from 15 different kinds of weapons. Aside from that, there are land, sea and air vehicles, grouped together in five categories. The plot is linear, but includes a lot of sudden twists. During the 20 available levels, all possible types of terrain are present, while varied and complex missions take place mainly in Martian deserts and underground corridors in mines.
- Geo Mod – a revolutionary engine
- Interactive vehicles. You can control five land, sea and air machines.
- Variety of weapons. Red Faction offers 15 different arguments for conversations with our enemies.
- A complex plot, describing a revolution on Mars.
- 20 various levels, covering many interesting locations on Mars.
- A multiplayer mode, allowing simultaneous participation for up to 32 players

Red Faction Tried to Start Revolution but Fell Short. This Shooter Is Remembered for Wall Destruction
Red Faction was big for a while. The FPS from Volition broke through into the consciousness of gamers mainly because of its almost absolute demolition of walls. It was supposed to be a revolution, but today the game is rather rarely mentioned.
