Excavate! is an unusual strategy game, which was created in cooperation with employees of the University of Gdansk. The production puts the player in the role of the head of a team conducting archaeological excavations at the former evangelical cemetery in Nowe Monasterzysko. Mateusz Sokalszczuk from Scriptwelder Studio is responsible for its development.

Mechanics

The player controls a team responsible for excavations, which consists of several employees - each of them is described by relevant statistics such as Strength, Perception, Intellect and Charisma. Each character performs best in a specific role, and achieving success will require the right use of the talents of team members.

We start the game with a specific amount of money that we can spend on various purposes (e.g. getting maps facilitating excavations, buying a drone or other equipment or hiring additional people). Then we decide where the work will be carried out and make a number of other decisions related to the course of work. As we discover more and more finds, we get more and more money. What is important, the game time is limited - we have only 14 days to carry out the work.

Game modes

In Excavate! can only be played solo.

Technical aspects

Excavate! features simple two-dimensional visuals, which are unlikely to arouse anyone's admiration. For most of the time we observe either the game field shown from an isometric perspective, or statistic screens and static illustrations. The gameplay is accompanied by pleasant, catchy music.
