Evoland 2: A Slight Case of Spacetime Continuum Disorder

Evoland 2 is the sequel to an incredibly original production of the French Shiro Games, being a kind of a sentimental journey throughout the history of computer games. Contrary to its predecessor, which was based on a freeware project created for the Ludum Dare competition, the second installment in the series was designed as a commercial application from the very beginning.

The scenario bases on the time travel theme. During the game, we assume the roles of a vast number of various characters, each of which has its own history and motivation. Every protagonist also plays completely different due to a different playstyle, determined by the story and player behavior.

Although the game bases on broadly defined RPG solutions, Evoland 2 is an unusual combination of many genres, including fighting, logic, adventure, platformer and action titles and even typical shooters. This is why the gameplay style constantly changes as the storyline progresses.

Similarly to its predecessor, the variety of genres goes hand in hand with different visual styles. The graphics changes according to the history of video games: from simple 2D locations to more advanced, fully 3D sceneries. We will also find countless number of references with which the developers pay a kind of a tribute to many cult productions and popular genres.
