The second installment in a series of postapocalyptic city builders. Endzone 2 has us leading a group of settlers, trying to survive in a dangerous land.
Endzone 2 is the second installment in a series of postapocalyptic city builder strategy games, originating from 2021 with Endzone: A World Apart. It was once again developed by Gentlymad Studios and published by Assemble Entertainment.
Plot
Endzone 2 is a direct sequel to the previous game. Upon acquiring vehicles, the survivors venture into the dangerous, treacherous Badlands. We lead a group of settlers, needing to help them survive and let them work towards rebuilding humanity.
Mechanics
Endzone 2 makes use of the top-down perspective. We start off with a tiny group of settlers traveling on a bus, seeking a good place to settle down in this new, unknown region. After finding such a place, we must start working.
The core gameplay loop doesn't differ much from the first game's. Our main task is acquiring resources necessary to survival and construction. We must also allocate duties to individual settlers. As we progress through the game, we can start progressively increasing our people's standard of living, create more advanced infrastructure, production lines and more effectively face new challenges. Speaking of problems we'll face - the world of Endzone 2 is full of danger, such as radiation, drought, toxic fallout and sandstorms.
Our settlement isn't the only thing we need to manage either. Over time, we can start building outposts in habitable zones, each with unique resources, strengths and weaknesses.These can be connected with trade routes; using vehicles makes them easier to travel between. We're also encouraged to explore the world and relocate our settlers via new possibilities (such as new resource depots, ancient ruins and new trade partners) or outside circumstances; some natural disasters can destroy water sources, turning lush areas into barren deserts.
Compared to the previous installment, the pathfinding and task distribution system were also improved. Settlers can also be sent out on expeditions and directly controlled during such.
Technical aspects
Endzone 2 features high-quality visuals. The animations and textures especially have been enhanced since the original game.
