Eight-Minute Empire is a turn-based strategy that was developed by Acram Digital. The game is an adaptation of a board game created by Ryan Laukat.
Mechanics
In Eight-Minute Empire the player assumes the role of a ruler of a new empire. The game is turn-based and takes place on a two-dimensional map. Each turn leaves you with a choice of six cards that offer various actions which can be performed during your turn. The available actions include amassing resources, recruiting military units, conquering new areas of the map, and safeguarding conquered provinces from enemy attacks. Each of these actions yields points. As the battle is won by a person who gathers the most points, the players have to balance all these elements in order to win. As suggested by the title, the game was designed in such a way for each match to last no longer than a few minutes.
Game Modes
Eight-Minute Empire offers both singleplayer and multiplayer modes for up to four players. A single player can test his mettle facing AI-controlled opponents on one of three difficulty levels, while multiplayer matches can take place online or in a hot-seat mode.
Technical Aspects
Eight-Minute Empire is characteristic for its minimalistic design. Aside from the aforementioned map, the rest of the playing field is almost completely covered by the player’s interface.
