Dysmantle Description
Dysmantle is an open-world action RPG, developed by independent studio 10tons, the team known for titles such as Tesla vs Lovecraft, Jydge, Crimsonland or Spellspire. Dark Souls, The Legend of Zelda and SteamWorld series are among the many sources of inspiration mentioned by the developers.
Plot
Dysmantle takes us on a journey to a picturesque island befallen by a mysterious catastrophe. As a result of the latter, the creatures inhabiting it (both humans and wild animals) transformed into bloodthirsty beasts. In the course of the game we play the role of a daredevil who, after leaving a safe shelter, intends to find a way to escape. However, before he does this, he will have to fight for survival, gradually taking control of this piece of land.
Mechanics
In Dysmantle, the action is shown in isometric view. The main element of the game is the title "dismantling"; the hero can destroy the vast majority of objects found in the game world, thus acquiring valuable materials such as plastic, rubber or metal. After finding a suitable blueprint, the acquired resources enable him to craft useful items, tools, clothes and armament (melee and ranged weapons, as well as various traps) and improvements to his existing equipment.
Properly equipped, the protagonist can continue to venture into the wilderness full of dangers, eliminating the enemies (whose organs can also be used as a crafting material), as well as erect outposts, sealing his presence in a given area. The presence of mysterious ruins, which we can enter after solving the puzzles guarding them, also encourages us to explore it. These places can be a source of technological achievements from the past era (providing an advantage over the inhospitable environment) or unique materials with almost magical properties (which in turn are used to craft powerful equipment).
It is worth noting that nothing stands in the way of transforming our base into a post-pocalyptic farm, where our guest grows plants or keeps tame animals; fish can also be a source of food. Although food is not a necessary condition for survival (the hero cannot die of hunger), preparing various dishes based on the acquired recipes provides the protagonist with permanent bonuses for statistics and skills. Moreover, in return for his activities, the protagonist gains experience, thanks to which he can face more and more challenges over time.
Technical aspects
Dysmantle is based on the technology that drives the previous work from 10tons, Tesla vs Lovecraft. The visuals of this production can be liked due to the colorful, cartoonish style, which efficiently masks visual deficiencies.
