Dungeon Dashers is the production of the independent Jiqxor studio, an extension of ideas from Dungeon Dash, a minimalist dungeon crawler. The source of inspiration for the creators were hits from the era of 8 and 16-bit computers.
The action of the game takes place in the fantastic land of Sanctuary, which is surrounded by high mountains and provides a safe and prosperous life for the inhabitants. Only a narrow rocky isthmus, called Rubicon, leads outside. Some say that it hides unimaginable riches. The only thing that is certain is that no one who has gone there has returned home.
The player directs the actions of the four-person heros team, who, fascinated by the mysterious, flickering symbol of dreams, decide to check what is behind the Rubicon. Each hero represents a different character class and has unique skills that define his role in the team. Magician Ardon wields the magic of the elements, knight Sir Jacob can break rocks thanks to his strength, killer Ryder has the ability to penetrate through obstacles, and scout January specializes in distance fighting.
The game focuses on exploring locations and fighting enemies. The latter takes place in the turn-based system. On 40 levels in five thematically separate locations, a player-controlled team may come across 20 types of opponents, including ploughing, undead and dragons.
Like the classic cRPG games, it is possible to develop character attributes based on the experience gained during the game. The creators have not forgotten about a large arsenal of weapons and armour, which can be further improved by themselves.
In addition to single-player mode, the game also offers the option of co-operative play for up to 4 players via the Internet. The built-in board editor also allows you to create your own dungeons or even entire campaigns.
From the audiovisual side Dungeon Dashers refers to the style of games from the era of 16-bit computers (Amgia 500 and others). The creators used two-dimensional graphics with a pixelization effect, which imitates the image displayed on old CRT monitors. The soundtrack for the game was composed by Nathan "Derris-Kharlan" Antony.
