An action game based on the Netflix TV series Voltron. The title was created by Digital Domain. The main protagonist of the game is Lance, the pilot of the Blue Lion – one of the five machines that are part of the titular Voltron, a giant, unstoppable robot. During his space adventures the protagonist discovers an abandoned ship and accidentally releases an ancient power that threatens the entire universe. Now he must stop this mysterious power.

DreamWorks Voltron VR Chronicles is an action game developed by Digital Domain for PC and PS4 and for virtual reality sets. The title was based on the license of the popular animated series Voltron from the eighties of twentieth century onwards.

Plot

The titular Voltron is a legendary giant Robot. He is the last hope of the Galaxy Alliance in a conflict with the evil Galra Empire led by the villainous Zarkon. This giant machine consists of five lion-robots controlled by the so-called Paladins. Due to his power, Voltron is searched by both sides of the conflict – finding and using him can decide the fate of the war. Although DreamWorks Voltron VR Chronicles for PC and PS4 is based on Voltron: Legendary Defender series created by Netflix, the developers decided to tell a separate story. The game features characters known from the animated series, including the above mentioned Zarkon and other characters like Hunk, Pidge, Keith, Shiro and Lance.

Lance, who is a pilot of the Blue Lion, is the main protagonist of the game. During his space adventures, he discovers an abandoned space ship and accidentally releases an ancient power that threatens the whole world. From now the protagonist must stop this mysterious force while he is also facing the armies of the Galra Empire.

Mechanics

The events in the PC and PS4 version of DreamWorks Voltron VR Chronicles are presented by using a first-person perspective. The title enables the player to participate in dynamic space battles fought from the cockpit of the abovementioned Blue Lion. The game also features environmental riddles and various events that push the story forward.

Because the game requires virtual reality goggles to work, the player can freely look around by moving his head and the controller movement is represented by the hands of the protagonist. This enables the player to manipulate his surroundings and navigate the robot in the space.

Technical aspects

DreamWorks Voltron VR Chronicles features three-dimensional graphics that use cartoon-like style similar to the one used in the animated TV series. The sounds used in the game are worth mentioning – actors from the series Voltron: Legendary Defender repeated their roles. In addition to that, the action is supplemented with a dynamical soundtrack.
