Drakengard 2 is a game made by Square Enix, creators of Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series. This is a combination of an RPG and action game in Japanese style.
The game takes you to a fantasy realm, full of noble knights, fairy-tale creatures, and fair maids. The story starts 18 years after the events of the first Drakengard, that told the story of a conflict between the Empire and the Union. This time you take on the role of a brave young man named Nowe, a member of the Knights of the Seal. His serene and prosperous life is disturbed by the news of a horrendous monster attacking his homeland. The hero has no other choice but to mount a friendly dragon Legna and drive out the invader. This is just the outset of an epic story full of plot twists and intriguing characters.
The game is divided into 12 stages with 90 smaller missions in total. The essence of gameplay are battles fought both in air and on the ground. In order to annihilate demons, trolls, and other monsters, Nowe makes use of 67 deadly weapons (axes, swords, spears, etc.). Some of the tools of destruction can be distributed among the warrior’s companions – the knight Urick, and even Legna, who deals with opponents with fire balls. You can switch between your allies in combat. At the end of each chapter, the heroes have to face a boss, an opponent much stronger and more agile than ordinary enemies. The developers counted that it takes over 20 hours to complete the game.
Audiovisuals keep similar quality level as the first part of the series. The graphics engine has no problems displaying even several dozen characters at the same time without drops in fluency. The soundtrack is also commendable with its soothing ambient tracks, as well as heavier pieces played in more dramatic moments.
