Dokapon! Sword of Fury

Dokapon! Sword of Fury is a production on the borderline of board games and RPGs, belonging to a series started in 1993 and being a remastered version of Dokapon! Ikari no Tetsuken. The described item, which was developed by Sting, first came to the Nintendo Switch console, but in this version it was made available only in Japan. It came to the West with a delay, in January 2025, with the release of the PC edition.

The plot of

Dokapon! Sword of Fury takes you to a fantasy world ruled by a false ruler - Wallace. When his identity is revealed, the real kr?l commissions us to defeat all manifestations of the usurper.

Nevertheless, the accomplishment of this mission is only a pretext for us to amass a real fortune, as it is the attainment of real wealth that is our primary goal here.

Gameplay

In Dokapon! Sword of Fury the gameplay takes place on a board presenting a fantastic kingdom. Viewing it from a bird's eye view, during the game we move across successive fields, while the place we end up on determines what we have to do next. A lot depends on luck here, as the number of p?l is determined by the result of a draw at the beginning of each round; the same is true of the question of who will attack first, which in turn is determined by a coin toss.

Fighting and money

Speaking of fighting - clashes with opponents take place in turn-based mode. Both characters of other players and monsters inhabiting the game world stand in our way. When we reach the field occupied by an enemy, we start a skirmish, during which we choose one type of attack, trying to choose it in such a way as to take advantage of the enemy's weaknesses. In addition to ranked enemies, from time to time we come face to face with powerful bosses.

As we progress, we develop the character and collect better and better equipment. The latter we find in the game world or purchase from merchants. Money, which plays a primary role here, can be acquired in a variety of ways. Although there is nothing to prevent us from acting in accordance with the law, we can just as well steal and plunder.

In addition, the game allows us to form alliances with other players (and leave them when least expected), as well as take part in special tournaments and events. All this in order to be recognized as the richest of heroes at the end of the game, thus ensuring victory.

Game modes

In Dokapon! Sword of Fury can be played solo or in multiplayer mode for up to three people, locally or over the Internet.

Graphics and other technical issues

The two-dimensional, pixelart graphics elements of the game Dokapon! Sword of Fury were kept in their original form. Nevertheless, the authors have leaned on the illustrations and tri-dimensional models, which have received a refresh.

Regardless of which mode we play in, we can stop the game and return to it at any time. A wide range of settings has been implemented in the game to customize the game to individual preferences; this includes options related to gameplay speed and balance, among others.
