Disciples Video Game Series
Maintained in the dark fantasy convention, turn-based strategy series created by Strategy First studio. The series is considered to be one of the biggest competitors of the saga Heroes of Might & Magicon which it is clearly modeled.
The first installment of the series - Disciples: Sacred Lands (published in Poland under the title Disciples: Sacred Lands) came into the hands of players in 1999. The production met with a moderately good reception, but managed to win over a crowd of fans. Three years later, developers from the Strategy First studio prepared a full-fledged sequel - Disciples II. Disciples II: Dark Prophecywhich received three official expansions (Disciples II: Guardians of the Light, Disciples II: Servants of the Dark i Disciples II: The Rise of the Elves). After Kalypso Media took over the rights to the brand, the development of the third part of the series was entrusted to the .dat studio. The result was a game released in 2009. Disciples III: Renaissance and a standalone add-on released a year later Disciples III: Resurrection.
The action of the games in the series Disciples takes place in the world of Nevendaar, inhabited by humans, dwarves, elves and undead. The story presented has a rich plot background, spanning more than six thousand years and showing the fate of the bloody conflict between the races, in which the gods are also involved. Mostly, players also have the opportunity to learn about the events of the campaign from different perspectives.
The gameplay mechanics largely resemble the solutions from Heroes of Might & Magic. The game takes place in turns on sizable maps. Players hire heroes, recruit units (separate for each race), expand cities, acquire resources, search for artifacts, use spells and so on. The main difference is in the combat mechanics. W Disciples units do not move around the board, and what matters is their positioning in a line and their attack range.
The first two installments of the series had simple, though aesthetically pleasing 2D visuals. With the release of the third installment, the series got 3D graphics generated based on the studio's proprietary .dat engine - Virtual Dream.

Third entry in the highly-rated Disciples series, started in 1999 by the Strategy First studio. The new game comes not only with a new publisher, but also a new producer – a rather unknown studio of .dat, previously part of Akella corporation. Once again we are taken to the universe of Nevendaar, where the forces of good and evil clash. The developers prepared three playable factions: we can play as Empire, Legions of the Damned or Elven Alliance. The gameplay itself remained the same as in previous games – we still get a turn-based strategy resembling the cult-classic Heroes of Might and Magic series. There are some RPG features implemented though, and battles have been modified (e.g. by adding the option of moving our troops). The most obvious novelty is a transition to full 3D graphics, thanks to the proprietary Virtual Dream engine.

A strategic turn-based game set in the reality of fantasy. The game is reminiscent of the Heroes of Might & Magic series, where choosing one of the nations, we fight against numerous creatures and races, and our main goal is to take over the territory belonging to the enemy. The great possibilities of development of the main character, huge amount of spells and mode for many players make it worth giving a chance to this game.
