Dinner with an Owl is a short horror adventure game in the style of classic point & click games. It was developed and published by BoringSuburbanDad, an independent one-person studio. The original version of the game was released back in 2017 on GameJolt. Over time, the game received "Dessert Edition" expansion, enriching the game with dubbing and an original soundtrack. The new installment of Dinner with an Owl is available for free on the Steam platform.
Plot
The main character, Mr. Webb, arrives at Mr. Brown's mansion to discuss business matters. However, when he enters his office, he quickly realises that something is not quite right. At his desk, instead of the expected Mr Brown, sits a man with the head of an... owl. The man doesn't seem to notice his guest's embarrassment and invites him to lunch, as well as introduces him to the other inhabitants of the house. The protagonist soon realises that he is not the only one feeling uneasy around the mysterious creature. He soon decides to help the other inhabitants of the mansion to escape.
Mechanics
Dinner with an Owl is an exploration game played from a third person perspective (TPP). During his stay in the mansion, the main character has the opportunity to hold conversations with its residents. How he conducts his dialogues will determine whether he manages to leave the mansion. The longer the player stays in this gloomy place, cut off from the rest of the world, the better he gets to know the location of its inhabitants and the specifics of the charm cast upon them.
Technical aspects
Dinner with an Owl features simple 2.5D graphics, bringing to mind classic adventure games. Its colour scheme is dominated by shades of black, red and yellow, further building the specific atmosphere of the game. The original soundtrack was also used in the game, including the song "Legion" by Bastian Windszus.
