Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Hacker's Memory for PS4 and PSV is a jRPG set in a universe of a popular anime series. The game brings a continuation to Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth (2015); it was developed and published by Bandai Namco.

Plot

The game is set in near future and the player is taken to the Shibuya district in Tokyo. The game presents another side to the story originally depicted in Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth. The action takes place both in the real world and in an online environment known as the Cyberspace Eden, which can be physically accessed using special hardware. Keisuke Amazawa is the protagonist; he is a teenager who falls victim to identity theft, which results in him being accused of committing a crime he had nothing to do with. In order to find the actual culprit, the protagonist joins a group of hackers known as "Hudie" and meets an entire set of complex characters, as well as the titular digimon – digital life forms existing in the Cyberspace Eden.

Mechanics

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Hacker's Memory for PS4 and PSV is a three-dimensional jRPG played from a third-person view. Developed by Bandai Namco, the game gives an opportunity to explore extensive locations in the Shibuya district, as well as to engage in turn-based fights – the game offers 320 different digimons (most of them were already present in the previous installment; this game adds 73). Collecting cyber-creatures constitutes an important part of the game – each of them has both its strong and weak spots. When fighting, the player can use up to three of them at a time, linking their attacks into powerful combos. The player is also capable of training digimons and developing their skills.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Hacker's Memory has a multiplayer mode as well, which can be found under the name "Domination". This variant places two teams against one another; their goal is to win the fight for territories (digimons are obviously used in the conflict). The players can compete within the ranking offered by the creators; they can play friendly games, or compete in games based on rules changing every two weeks.

Technical aspects

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Hacker's Memory for PS4 and PSV stands out with enchanting, three-dimensional visuals definitely inspired by the animated original. The in-game locations, as well as both character and digimon models are full of details. It is also worth noticing the spectacular lighting effects accompanying the fights.
