Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat is a combination of a hack-and-slash and an action RPG, as well as a spin-off of the bestselling Devil May Cry series. It was developed by NebulaJoy and supervised by Capcom. It is a free-to-play game featuring microtransactions.
Plot
The story doesn't play an important role in Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat. The main protagonist, Dante, already known from the series' other installments, joins other heroes such as Lady, Vergil and Nero in battle against hordes of monsters, demons and hellish creatures.
Mechanics
Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat makes use of the third-person perspective (TPP). The player traverses various locations and fights enemies. Combat is dynamic, emphasizing constant movement, switching weapons, skills and attacks as well as chaining them into flashy combos. The game continuously grades our performance, forcing the player to master the combat system in order to earn the highest ranks. Other than regular foes we'll also face much more powerful bosses, led by the most iconic foes from the main series.
Though the characters retain their iconic weaponry, the developers had to adapt the combat system to mobile devices (especially touch controls, as characters are controlled with a virtual joystick and on-screen buttons), forcing them to make some changes and simplify the gameplay overall. As an example, characters are limited to wielding four weapons at most, with Dante himself only retaining two combat styles (Trickster and Royalguard).
Each weapon comes with stats which determine its effectiveness. They can be upgraded by using resources acquired by playing the game. The characters' stats can be upgraded in the same way as well.
Game modes
Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat is playable in singleplayer and multiplayer. The game offers two difficulty levels.
Technical aspects
Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat boasts high-quality visuals. Though the artstyle as a whole is reminiscent of Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, it includes some elements taken from the series' other installments as well.
