Devil Daggers Description
Devil Daggers for PC is the debut project of Sorah. The creators were inspired mainly by shooter games released back in the 1990s. This is reflected not only by the visuals referring to the classics from that period, but also the incredibly fast pace and high difficulty level.
Plot
In Devil Daggers, the plot (assuming that such exists here) is of secondary importance. The protagonist was damned for the whole eternity and fights endless battles against hordes of demons, monsters and other devil's descendants, which takes place on the arena in the center of hell. The player is required to eliminate subsequent waves of enemies approaching from all directions. First, However, the player needs to survive and evolve by acquiring new abilities and gaining new weaponry.
Mechanics
Devil Daggers for PC is played from the first-person view. The game offers a simple, 3D environment and the player moves around the arena freely. Fighting different enemies (13 kinds of them) is the core aspect of the game; being able to defeat each one requires application of different tactics – this especially applies to bosses, who are not only larger than regular enemies, but stronger as well. The game is very difficult, thus the protagonist dies here very often. Encounters lasting for only a couple of seconds are a common occurence.
At their disposal, the player has magical throwing knives, which can either be separately, or in concentrated series resembling machine gun fire. The game was inspired by shooters from the 90s, which is visible in controls as well. Making use of advanced movements is the key to success here, and the so-called "dagger jump" is one such technique. This is however, nothing else but an equivalent to rocket jumps popularized by the Quake series. For instance, when a shot was taken in a right moment, the following bullet recoil allows to perform substantially longer and higher jumps.
Game modes
The game features online leaderboards, thus the player can compare their scores to others'. Furthermore, one is capable of viewing replays of others' approaches.
Technical aspects
Devil Daggers for PC is set in a three-dimensional environment utilizing the technology developed by the creators themselves. The in-game graphics refer to titles released at the end of the century, though classic patterns were enriched with elements such as advanced, three-dimensional physics or procedurally generated textures. As a result, the game's memory consumption was reduced to a fairly small level. Thus owners of older hardware can enjoy the game with a smooth framerate and without experiencing technical issues. Also, the game features surround sound, which is supposed to make the player more aware of the in-game surroundings.
