Detective Grimoire, released on AND, iOS and PC, is a detective adventure game. This is a continuation of the free browser production from 2007 and both projects were developed by SFB Games.
Plot
Detective Grimoire takes place in a strange amusement park located in the middle of vast swamps. Its main attraction is the place known as Boggy's Bog, which is allegedly inhabited by a mysterious creature. The action starts when a murder takes place in the park and everything seems to indicate that the perpetrator is the aforementioned monster from the marshes. We play as a detective is summoned to the place to discover the truth. It soon turns out that there are many more suspects in this case than it initially seemed.
Mechanics
Detective Grimoire is a traditional detective adventure. While playing, we explore locations, collect evidence and clues, talk to witnesses and solve logical puzzles. The game has an automatically updated virtual log, where all the facts discovered by us that are crucial for the investigation, are placed.
The suspects' interrogation mechanic differs slightly from the standards of the genre. These activities take the form of a mini puzzle game, in which we ask questions and show our interlocutors the clues we found. The results of these conversations generate thoughts and ideas in the mind of the detective and we have to combine them into matching pairs, allowing the hero to come to specific conclusions.
Technical aspects
Detective Grimoire was made in full 2D, using quite unusual, but attractive visuals. The authors also implemented a helpful system highlighting all interactive places and objects on the screen.
