Lightfall is an expansion for the online FPS Destiny 2. It introduces a new location in the form of a futuristic city and offers an extensive story campaign, a rich selection of cooperative missions, an additional gameplay mode and previously unknown powers.
Destiny 2: Lightfall is the next expansion for Bungie studio's popular shooter with MMO elements. While the basic version of the game uses a free-to-play model with micropayments, this expansion is a paid production.
Plot
The expansion moves over to a futuristic city located on Neptune. The place, called Neonuma, will become the target of a siege by the forces of the Witness, also known as the Voice of Darkness.
Game mechanics
Lightfall is a classically implemented expansion, which focuses mainly on offering fresh content without drastically reworking Destiny 2 mechanics. The project introduces new locations, weapons and armor to the game. It also raises the maximum level of development.
However, there were also novelties in gameplay mechanics. Lightfall offers three new subclasses - one for each class. They allow you to use the power of Darkness, based on the power of Darkness, which was previously unavailable, allowing you to pluck threads from the canvass of reality,
Titans can become Tyrants, who, thanks to energy claws, can cut off enemies from the source of power. Sorcerers can choose the subclass of Architect manipulating the moves of enemies. Hunters, on the other hand, were given the option to choose the Threadrunner subclass, increasing the character's mobility, such as by allowing them to swing between buildings on an energy rope.
Game modes
Destiny 2: Lightfall offers a new story campaign and a previously unavailable gameplay mode in the form of the titular Lightfall. The missions introduced by the add-on can be played alone or in co-op with several friends.
The add-on also introduces a new six-player raid to the game.
Technical aspects
Lightfall offers the same high level of quality as the base version of Destiny 2.

Windows Central: 3 / 5 by Brendan Lowry
Between its horrible story, subpar post-campaign quests, and lackluster raid, Destiny 2's Lightfall expansion is a massive step backward for Bungie's live service shooter. There is some good here — Strand is fantastic, and most of the new gear is strong, too — but overall, Lightfall will leave most dissatisfied.
Push Square: 7 / 10 by Aaron Bayne
There is so much we could still cover with this latest expansion, like Buildcrafting 2.0 and the new Guardian Ranks system, both of which aim to streamline the Destiny experience. However, at its core Lightfall is all about its story, setting, and gameplay changes. The campaign and setting largely let us down, with the whole thing feeling like the middle child of the Witch Queen, Ligthtfall, and Final Shape trilogy. However, the vigorous excitement that Destiny 2's brilliant gameplay elicits greatly elevates the overall Lightfall experience, with some stellar enhancements thanks to Strand subclasses and grapples. It's irritating to be left in narrative limbo for yet another year, but you'll still struggle to find a space shooter that is this much fun.
DualShockers: 6.9 / 10 by Jeffrey David Brooks
Destiny 2: Lightfall offers an action-packed campaign that feels more like a filler story than an essential narrative. It also presents extremely well-designed levels, enemies, and combat loops, as well as several overhauls and improvements to the game's core systems. DualShockers was provided with a copy of the game for review purposes.
