Release Date: 2026 Estimated
Action, FPP, science fiction, stealth, FPS, indie games, shooters, singleplayer
A narrative first-person action game set in a dystopic sci-fi world. The gameplay in Deficit offers shooting, melee combat and stealth - it's a combination similar to titles like The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. The game was made by the authors of the Perish FPS.
Deficit is the second project of the British studio ITEM42, founded by the Ware brothers, Regan and Bret. Their previous game was the FPS titled Perish. The developer has once again created a first-person action game. This time it puts more emphasis on the narrative and features a science-fiction setting. It also offers improved gameplay by adding focus on close combat and stealth in addition to the shooting bits.
Story
Deficit takes us to a grim future world dominated by corporations. During the game, we play as a spy working for one of them, and our task is to steal the Interpolator that modifies reality, which is hidden in the research laboratories of the Sidereal Project. The issue is complicated by the fact that in order to carry out the task for our client, we have to break through the concrete labyrinth known as Hadrian's Wall and deal with the Oversight Task Force guarding it.
Gameplay
Locations
Apart from Hadrian's Wall located in the physical world, the adventure in Deficit leads us through border realities, to which we teleport using the Interpolator. By using spacetime tunnels, we can bypass dangers and obstacles lurking in the maze, although at the same time we must prepare for the necessity of facing others. There is more than one path leading to many objectives in the game, and it's up to us which one we choose.
Enemies, stealth and combat
On our path, we often encounter opponents. While in the physical world they are primarily members of the Oversight Task Force along with the robots and machines they use, in alternative realities we have to face monsters. The game allows us to sneak behind the backs of adversaries, eliminate them by surprise and hack their security systems (turning safety measures against them), as well as engage in open combat.
On the battlefield, our hero uses everything that comes to his hand. The protagonist can engage in hand-to-hand combat, make use of melee weapons (ranging from items like bricks and paint cans, through hammers and screwdrivers, to clubs), and also use firearms (led by pistols and rifles).
