Death Tales is a two-dimensional, arcade action game set in the open world. The player takes control of Death itself by cutting out enemies standing in the way of Death. The title was originally supposed to appear on PlayStation Portable in 2010, but the production was suspended - after a few years the developers returned to the idea and decided to release the game in the PlayStation Vita version. Silver Sphere Studios, headed by Luc Bernard, is responsible for production.
The story begins with a love affair between Death and a mortal. In love with a man, she never wanted to take his life away from him, so she gave him an extraordinary gift and turned him into the Dark Reaper. Although the transformation gave him eternal existence, at the same time it spoiled him completely - the changed lover, ceased to be interested in Death and this one with a broken heart decided to give up everything she knew and started leading a hermitage life. Soon afterwards, unknown forces against her will bring her back to her gloomy duties - not wanting to surrender to anybody, Death creates its own army, which began to sow destruction around the world.
The player plays one of the Dark Reapers created in this way - his character was the only one who decided to rebel against the madness in which his principal had fallen. Using her numerous combo, spells and special skills, she pierces through hordes of enemies to end her reign. The world we travel through is randomly generated, so that each adventure is a completely new experience. The production offers two modes - feature film and the so-called "Tales", in which we face random challenges alone or with a second player.
Death Tales, despite its dark theme, is a relatively colourful title - enemy models are apparently inspired by Tim Burton's Halloween Village, but the whole world is endowed with a much richer colour scheme. The PlayStation Vita version of the game is based on a free-to-play model.
