Dealer: Chronic, Pills & Coke is an extremely controversial title by Nagual Games, a small development studio founded in 2002. For the first time in the history of the commercial computer games market we have the opportunity to play the role of a drug dealer.
Even before you start playing, you should choose one of the four characters prepared from above. Individuals differ in personality types, appearance and type of addiction. The latter factor has a significant influence on the course of the game. A person with a higher level of addiction will have to take drugs more often on their own, otherwise they will lose their basic assets (e.g. strength or charisma).
The action is observed from the perspective of a third person. The character chosen by the player moves through a large city. The right game is played in a quite typical way. The main problem that needs to be tackled is to find an intermediary from whom you can buy more drugs. The finished goods are then sold on the streets. It is also worth mentioning that in some situations there may be fights, for example with competing dealers. In such a situation you can use a rich arsenal of weapons - pistols, machine and sniper rifles, grenades, explosives and even rocket launchers. As the game develops, new possibilities for action appear. The plot of the singleleplayer campaign includes a total of twenty different missions (+10 hidden or optional stages), in addition to which there are several network modes.
As in the case of the GTA or Driver series, it is possible to use vehicles moving on the streets of the city. A player can steal one of forty different car models. The city is divided into several different districts, such as the Negro ghetto, port district, beach or a luxurious housing estate. A controlled character can sell up to ten different types of drugs, including LSD, Ecstasy and cocaine. The game takes into account different effects of selected types of agents. Moreover, the use of several drugs at the same time translates into additional negative consequences.
Visual setting of the game presents itself quite untypical. The authors of Dealer paid special attention to image distortions caused by the drug or lack of it. In critical situations, a controlled character can have hallucinations and see objects that do not really exist. The game runs on the Gamebryo Engine.
