Daymare: 1998 Description
Daymare: 1998 is an action adventure survival horror released on PC. It is the first game developed by Invader Studios.
Plot
The game takes place in the titular year 1998 and the story is filled with references to the nineties’ pop culture. The plot is presented from the perspective of a few playable characters – including a special forces soldier whose wife and daughter are imprisoned in a city swarming with monsters.
Mechanics
Daymare: 1998 for PC is an action-adventure survival horror in which the player travels through locations filled with various monsters. His main activities are exploration, combat and occasionally some riddle solving. The action is presented by using a third-person perspective.
The game was developed mostly for genre veterans who long for real challenges and who miss old mechanics. The game is very hard and every single bullet matters – the player never has enough ammunition to eliminate all enemies on the map. In addition, the ability to save the game is very limited. Because of all of that, in order to survive, the player must act very carefully.
Technical aspects
The game is powered by Unreal Engine 4.0. It offers attractive three-dimensional graphics. The design of the opponents is a strong advantage of the game – they were designed by Satoshi Nakai, a Japanese artist who also created the monsters for the games Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Resident Evil 0.
Misc
The title is developed on the foundations of the cancelled Resident Evil 2 Reborn. It was supposed to be a freeware title that recreates the campaign of Resident Evil 2 in a fully three-dimensional environment and with mechanics similar to the ones used in Resident Evil 4. However, the work on the title stopped when Capcom, the owner of the rights to the franchise, asked for it. The creators of Resident Evil 2 Reborn decided to continue their cooperation and they started working on their own, commercial project, which became known as Daymare: 1998 for PC.
