An action-adventure game developed by RSK Entertainment, based on authentic events from Iran’s history. The plot of Dark Years takes us to 1950s, where, as a result of a secret pact between Great Britain and USA, a democratically chosen government led by Mohammad Mosaddegh is overthrown, resulting in a serious political crisis as well as destabilization and violence among local communities.

Dark Years for PC is an action-adventure game based on a real story, describing the events that occured in 1950s in Iran. The developer, RSK Entertainment, is known for a few other adventure games, inspired by the events from the history of Iran and other countries of Middle East.

Plot

The plot of Dark Years was inspired by real events that occurred in 1953, widely known as “Operation Ajax”. Attempting to take control over Iran’s crude oil supply, Great Britain and the USA make a secret pact which is aimed at ending the democratic rule of the government led by Mohammad Mosaddegh. The result of this action is a serious crisis of the newly found country, and a fatal period of destabilization and violence in local communities. The game presents the perspectives of two heroes: Major Afshar, who has to discover the culprit behind a series of murders that sweeps through Tehran, and a London-based Iranian journalist who discovers an international conspiracy against his country.

Mechanics

Dark Years for PC is an action-adventure game, taking place in two open locations: London and Tehran. The action is seen from a third person perspective, while mechanics include genre staples such as exploration and puzzle solving. Special emphasis was put on dialogues with encountered characters. During the gameplay, we’ll be conversing with 25 independent characters, with total of 3 thousand dialogue sequences. Aside from typical adventure game elements, Dark Years contains a number of arcade sequences, in which we can take part in spectacular shoot-outs and car chases.

Technical Aspects

Dark Years for PC employs fully 3D visuals, which unfortunately fall behind the standards set by the AAA titles. The main highlight of the title is the complex storyline, broaching important – however generally unknown – events from Iran’s history.
