Dark Deception: Monsters & Mortals Description
Dark Deception: Monsters & Mortals is a horror party game developed by indie studio Glowstick Entertainment. The game is based on the developers' previous game, the episodic horror Dark Deception. Players are tasked with traversing ghastly mazes, collecting shards scattered around them and competing with opponents.
Game mechanics
We observe the action of the game from the first person perspective. As in Dark Deception, the action of Monsters & Mortals takes place in mazes riddled with traps and inhabited by monsters. Depending on the gameplay mode, the player takes on the role of a human or a monster. Humans are tasked with surviving, escaping from monsters and collecting debris scattered throughout the corridors of the mazes. Monsters, on the other hand, are tasked with chasing and killing other players. In addition to the shards, the nooks and crannies of the maps also hide chests with useful items and dangerous bosses, who, when summoned, also start hunting people.
Game modes
All three available game modes only support four-player online gameplay. The first mode puts three players as humans, the fourth as a monster. Players are tasked with finding a certain number of shards and escaping through a portal before time runs out. The monster has to delay them and kill them. The second mode is a battle between four monsters, while the winner is the player with the highest number of shards. Players can steal shards, injuring rivals or killing them. The third mode works on the rules of elimination. Shards appear on the map in three waves, while the player with the least number of shards dies at the end of the wave. Killed players are reborn as monsters, and it becomes their job to hunt the still alive. The winner is the last one left alive.
Technical aspects
Graphics and audio are attractive and effectively builds an unsettling atmosphere while keeping the game's hardware requirements fairly low.
