Original survival horror designed for many players. We play the role of one of the survivors, trying to survive and, at any cost, get out of a haunted hotel, where a bloodthirsty monster hunts us.
Damned is an unusual and exceptionally original survival horror intended for multi-player gameplay. The action of the game takes place in a hotel abandoned in 1920, which was an arena of macabre events many years ago. Since then, the building has been open to those who want to prove to the whole world that true spirits do not exist (or that it is exactly the other way round).
Starting the game we can play as one of a group of four people imprisoned in a haunted hotel or a monster, which is supposed to track down and kill them.
In the first case, our task is to work together and run away from this place together, so as not to fall into the trap of a monster trapping us. At the beginning of our equipment is only a torch, which we have to use very carefully, because too long lighting up the road makes us an easy target for the beast. Moving around the building, we can use all the items there: drawers, doors, safes, wardrobes or wardrobes in any way we like. And all this in order to escape with life and not to be traced at any cost.
A completely different experience is the ability to play the monster itself. In this case, in order to track down and kill the survivors, we have to use an ethereal form in which we can penetrate the walls, evoke various mysterious events or make sounds aimed at intimidating or deceiving the opponent. From time to time we can also take a physical form in which we give vent to our bloodthirsty instincts and kill people.
A noteworthy element of the game, which makes each subsequent session completely different from the previous ones, is a fully randomly created environment in which we struggle. In each game, not only the layout of rooms is generated from scratch, but also the layout of individual items. The whole hotel lives its own life, constantly treating us with frightening rasps, the sounds of crackling doors and ghosts lurking in the nooks and crannies.
Authors working on their own engine called 9gears managed to create a very evocative atmosphere straight from the most famous horror films. The constant twilight and dozens of sounds coming from different places intensify the feeling of horror and helplessness in the clash with supernatural forces.
