Culdcept Revolt Description
Culdcept Revolt is a strategic RPG that combines the features of classic board games with card games. The title was released on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the Culdcept series, which was born in 1997 and launched on Sega Saturn and PlayStation. Since then, the series has seen several installments and DLCs designed for other hardware platforms. The Japanese studio Omiya Soft is responsible for the development of all its installments, including Culdcept Revolt.
Story
Culdcept Revolt takes players into an original fantasy world. The main character, a young boy named Allen, is a fresh recruit of an army of rebels fighting the tyranny of Count Kraniss. In the course of his adventure, he and his allies try to overthrow the regime of the unjust and cruel ruler, destroying the troops under his command. The story is presented in the form of visual novel section, which we included between the battles.
Mechanics
In the course of the game, the players fight turn-based battles on square-shaped boards using cards representing monsters and spells used in battles with enemies. The aim of each game is to score as many points as possible for taking control of the subsequent sectors of the board. In each turn we move in the chosen direction. The number of fields covered at a time is determined by the dice throw. If we come across an opponent while moving, we start a card duel, and after winning, we take control of the field occupied by the opponent. The players can build or modify the deck themselves. The devs prepared a total of over four hundred cards representing various creatures, abilities, and spells. Each monster is described by a series of statistics describing its chances of winning a battle.
Game modes
In addition to the single-player campaign, Culdcept Revolt also includes a multiplayer mode. Both local and online duels are available. In each of them can take on a maximum of four people. The devs have also prepared online leaderboards, on which the best players from all over the world can be found.
Technical aspects
Culdcept Revolt offers simple three-dimensional visuals, combined with two-dimensional sprites, used to represent individual characters and special effects. Noteworthy are the character designs prepared by Kinu Nishimura, an artist associated with Capcom, for whom she worked on the Street Fighter series and Code of Princess She's also known for working on several anime series, such as Gundam Reconguista in G.
