The Royal Court is the first big expansion for the strategy game Crusader Kings III, released in September 2020. The add-on was developed by the creators of the original, the Paradox Development Studio team, and its release was handled by Paradox Interactive.

Mechanics

The first novelty introduced in Crusader Kings III: The Royal Court is the throne room. It is a visual representation of our royal majesty and our workplace. This is where we receive vassals and members of our court, as well as messengers from other kingdoms. It is also where we settle disputes, where we pass judgement on trivial matters as well as those that affect our entire kingdom. As a result, the throne room has to look its best. In order to improve its appearance, we can decorate it with various ornaments, or rely on the work of various artists who will be happy to share their works with us.

There is also a new system called grandeur in The Royal Court add-on. In order to improve the quality of life of our court, as well as to impress our rivals and potential allies, we can hire food tasters, antiquarians, animators and other specialists who will take care of our appearance and reputation. Besides, nothing stands in the way of paying for a teacher who will teach us new languages, which will reduce the punishment granted in contacts with representatives of different cultures.

And since we're talking about cultures - while working on the described add-on, the developers also worked on this system and improved it significantly. The add-on allows us, among other things, to create unique cultures that are a chunks of existing ones, as well as to create hybrid cultures, containing elements of several different cultures. Along with the described DLC a free update has debuted, which among other things introduced a new interface of cultures.

Technical aspects

The Royal Court is not a stand-alone expansion and therefore requires the base version of Crusader Kings III to run.
