Crusader Kings III: Khans of the Steppe is an add-on opening the fourth chapter of the strategy game titled Crusader Kings III, released in 2020. The add-on was prepared by the authors of the basic version of this production, the Paradox Development Studio team.
New features in the add-on
As the title suggests, Crusader Kings III: Khans of the Steppe takes us to the Asian steppes and introduces mechanics inspired by the nomadic peoples of the Middle Ages there.
Nomadic Government
Among the new elements, the so-called Nomadic Government takes the lead. The people we lead must constantly move in search of resources, and it is up to us to determine how they treat other similar groups they encounter on their way. We can deal with them peacefully and solve problems through negotiation, or join the path of violence and forcibly conquer new pastures.
Herds and seasons
Speaking of pastures - an important role is played by the Herds system, through which we manage our horses and cattle. These animals are an extremely important resource, allowing us to maintain our subordinates and serving as currency in negotiations.
Survival on the steppes is made more difficult by climate change. Although there are regular periods here when the weather is favorable for the development of herds, ensuring the prosperity of our people, sulfurous frosts come just as regularly, forcing our people to venture further afield.
Domination
The add-on also brings a new parameter, Domination, whose rate increases as we acquire new territory. When it reaches its maximum value, we can even try to reach the title of Lord of the Universe, aligning ourselves with Genghis Khan himself.
Technical issues
Crusader Kings III: Khans of the Steppe is a non-self-contained add-on, so it requires the basic version of Crusader Kings III game.
