Critical Depth Description
An arcade action game developed by SingleTrac, in which the players take control of submarines and fight for survival in battles taking place under water. The game is very similar in terms of mechanics to previous games from thehits, two installments of Twisted Metal.
Story
Douglas McKragen, a scientist who conducted undersea research and followed five objects not from this world, disappears without a trace. Twelve organizations set out to harness unknown powers and implement their plans. Among the participants of the fierce battle are CIA agents, members of environmental organizations, revolutionaries, brothers of the dark deity order and the communists.
Mechanics
Each of the available factions has its own vehicle, characterized by unique features. The vehicles are distinguished by their underwater behaviour, speed, manoeuvrability, resistance to damage and available special weapons. The specific nature of underwater combat makes the fights differ from those of car action games and play out on more than one level. Additionally, various power-ups and additional weapons are scattered across the maps, available for battle participants to can use to eliminate opponents. As we progress through the game, players must win subsequent battles in the arenas, while at the same time achieving side objectives for which they can unlock new heroes.
Game modes
The devs made it possible for two players to have fun on split screen. Companions can complete athe story mode or fight against each other in a traditional deathmatch. There is also a special Battle Mode, where the aim is not to eliminate all other machines on the map, but to get alien artifacts as quickly as possible.
Technical aspects
Critical Depth is a three-dimensional action game, adopting slightly ridiculous, humoros style. This is confirmed, among other things, by the design of vehicles or the pretentious motivations of individual groups involved in the conflict.
